Genesis and Jaye
Get the Flash Player to see this player.
58-years old rocker and artist Genesis P. Orridge from New York is someone with a peculiar beauty ideal: when s/he was married to his recently deceased wife Lady Jaye, all they wanted was to look as much alike as possible. Hence his breast implants and scores of other cosmic surgeries.

I cant beleive how cruel and ignorant some of you are to criticize someone like that. What the f makes Anyone so apathetic, your like a bunch of politicians. Why dont you put something down thats true and thoughtful instead of cheap, mean words like freak and shite. Im so sick of turning on any site and seeing this crap. Its everywhere!!! At first it was funny, but now its really starting to worry me that this is how most people are. No wonder so much is being ignored and not enough people fight for change. Its not because they cant its because they dont fcking care! Thats so much worse. I might have gone off a lttle too much there, sorry to bore anyone. So anyway, I thought the clip was beautiful. Not many will ever have that kind of connection with someone. Where you two are really one. Ive NeVeR had that. Only in dreams, like your anima/animus. But I have had moments of closness where It felt as if our two higher selves were communicating instead of the concious mind but not often. Not too many are that open to anything. Ive had better conversations with some strangers than some people ive been close to my whole life. Imagine, if we were all united together we could change every injustice

Well, no one is as interesting as he thinks he is. I’ve always thought that what Orridge does is interesting and didn’t much bother with whether or not I found him/her interesting. I met him once before I knew who he was and didn’t find out until I accidentally ran across an article. I think it’s the height of assumption though to think that we know what others are thinking because we see something in their actions - it could indicate something, but it could be something entirely different if we took time to talk with the people we so easily judge. And one of the things I’ve always enjoyed about Genesis P. Orridge is that you couldn’t really pin down a definition, and by that very nature, you can’t feel particularly good about judging and this makes us question what right we have to judge anyone at all. But of course, I’m a hypocrite (as are each of us) as I’m judging the actions of another. I’ll question myself about that - will anyone else making sweeping assumptions? I hope so. I think that’s a coup for humanity when we do.

The real genius is the filmmakers warning lesson in self involved narcissism. Wonder if he’s even aware of that subtle flicker? Mr. Demille, I’m ready for my close-up!
Too bad Gen P Orridge isn’t as interesting as he thinks he is.

This presentation is a pathetic, unfortunate blast to any respect that I ever had for this transphibian as a supposed “magician.” It needs to get its teeth fixed and perhaps then breast size and fancy shoes might be somewhere down the line. If this is truly Gen’s “True Will,” then the result is an object lesson to Novices that such ideas still need to be subjected to SOME counterbalance from common sense. Pathetic..just completely pathetic. Love is indeed the Law… but UNDER WILL!

This was really great, guys, thanks for making it. What a sharply articulated, radical, and thought-provoking experiment with what it means/is and what it can mean/be to be a person.

Somehow I don’t think plastic surgery is going to help you overcome your DNA. One would think that type of undertaking would require massive amount of self realization. An inside job, so to speak, and putting the cart before the horse. Drugs have taken thier toll on poor Gen. Though love is inspiring, drug addiction and bad plastic surgery isn’t.
Someone put this doddering lech into rehab.

That was a beautiful portrait about love and loss.
Jaye and Genesis both, were so lucky to have each other, love that deep is so very rare.

Very moving. Paints a very vivid picture of a person not a freak. I hope Genesis can continue to take everything in and create with it. It’s right there in the name: Genesis.

How moving and sad. I’m so glad Genesis can still feel the bond even though Jaye has moved on. They will become one someday.

Such an amazing person, her influence on art, music and popular culture is too often overlooked. If it were not for Genesis this world would be a much duller place (so I would like to thank her on behalf of Marilyn Manson, Trent Reznor and the many performance artists, fashion designers, and musicians that have quietly ´borrowed´ a little bit of her magick and done very well for themselves over the years)

Hollis,
Thanks for your response. We’d both love to make a longer version at some point–it was pretty cool of the VPRO to give us the chance to make this short, since most of our pieces tend to be in the 5 minute range.
We haven’t planned any other shoots with Gen at this time, but who knows? Regardless, we’ll be at the PTV III show in Brooklyn on the 9th.

Gen is mijn held,
Voor meer dan twintig jaar volg ik deze in mijn ogen meest vernieuwende, most liberal hoog intelligente kunstenaar.
Erg leuk dat er eens wat op de nederlandse TV te zien is over deze Altijd boeiende persoon.
